Sun, sea and smiles – SiGMA Foundation training regimen underway

The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the SiGMA Foundation was on the move towards its charitable goals. With the dust barely having settled on the 2nd and 3rd Camino de Santiago expeditions back in May and September 2022, the group is gearing up for a fourth, this time planned for April 2023! Do you have what it takes to join in the FUNdraising?

The SiGMA Foundation trekked across the southern coastline of Gozo in a two-part hike. The group consisted of 26 souls, all preparing for the upcoming Camino de Santiago expedition in April 2023. This journey will mark the fourth expedition in a year-and-a-half long period. Hosting the Camino de Santiago expedition together with their main sponsor, Brown’s Group of Pharmacies, has become a tradition for the SiGMA Foundation. As a result, over €250,000 have been raised for charitable projects in Ethiopia and Kenya.

Autumn is steadily taking over the Maltese countryside. The sweltering heat typical of Maltese summers has already began to temper. The Foundation did not delay to take advantage of the favourable change in the weather. On the 2nd of October, 26 members took off to Gozo to trek along its southwestern coast.

The group kickstarted the 11.3 km journey at 6:45am from the idyllic, sun-washed port of M?arr, with the destination set for Xlendi. They hiked across stony shores to the serene bay of M?arr ix-Xini. This was followed by a trek through fields spotted with greenery towards the village of Munxar. On the way, there was ample opportunity to appreciate the majestic vistas of the cliffs at Ta’ ?en? and Sannat.

“Enjoying these beautiful sights is not only something we deserve,” remarked Keith Marshall, Founder and Chief Philanthropy Officer at the SiGMA Foundation. “It is rather our duty to ourselves and this incredible Earth!”

This hike was the second half of a series. The first adventure, having occurred a week prior on Saturday 24th September, saw the same group trek through the eastern shoreline. Everyone involved got to enjoy the scenic cliffs of Comino a stone’s throw away, as well as the crystal-clear waters at ?ondoq ir-Rummien.
