Philippines ranks in top 50 nations list of good peace and order

A report released by Washington-based analytics and advisory firm Gallup shows that 80% of Filipinos believe that their community is safe

Yesterday, Thursday 29th October, Washington-based analytics and advisory firm Gallup released the 2020 Global Law and Order report.

Gallup’s Global Rule of Law Report is an index that measures people’s personal security and government law enforcement worldwide.

elzarResults from the survey concluded that 8 out of 10 Filipinos believed that their community was safe. The outcomes of this report resulted in the country’s inclusion in the top 50 nations of good peace and order.

Philippine’s law and order score was 84 points. Singapore and Turkmenistan topped the list with 97 points, while Afghanistan ranked last with 43 points.

The report indicates a significant improvement in the country’s security situation.

Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield, in a press statement stated: “Whether it is fighting criminals or implementing quarantine rules, the purpose of our dedication and sacrifice is to make every street and community feel safe. We will work harder to protect people, whether it is day or night. We aim to make it feel safe to walk on the street.’

The four questions used to measure the people’s sense of personal security and their personal experiences with crime and law enforcement were:

  1. In the city or area where you live, do you have confidence in the police force?
  2. Do you feel safe walking alone at night in the city or area where you live?
  3. Within the last 12 months, have you had money or property stolen from you or another household member?
  4. Within the past 12 months, have you been assaulted or mugged?

Eliezer attributed the positive results of this investigation to the active implementation of strict pandemic prevention measures and isolation rules by local government units and other government agencies.
