Las Vegas Sands launches $2 billion integrated resort in Macau

Las Vegas Sands and Sands China co-hosted a grand opening at The Londoner Macau on Thursday to mark the full completion of the Cotai property. The event marked the commemoration of a new 10-year gaming concession for Las Vegas Sands in Macau.

The company pledged to invest US $3.7 billion in Macau spread on integrated services over the next ten years and grow a non-gaming infrastructure in the region.

Founder’s dream

The Las Vegas Sands Empire was founded by the late Sheldon G. Adelson. CEO and Chairman of Las Vegas Sands, Robert G Goldstein said the new US $2 billion integrated resort was the founder’s vision come true. His dream was to develop a piece of “reclaimed land” in Macau.

Goldstein described the new Macau project as “the city’s economic powerhouse”.

Sands China has delivered on Sheldon Adelson’s vision through the ongoing development of Cotai. Where 250 acres of empty reclaimed land once sat, we have built one of the world’s leading tourist destinations with an incredible future ahead of it. You can’t get a better hotel room than what we’ve put in the Londoner. You can’t get better spa experience, you can’t get better food experience,” Robert G Goldstein, Chairman and CEO – Las Vegas Sands

The opening of the Londoner Macau was endorsed by celebrity former professional footballer David Beckham who is also a brand ambassador for the resort.

Hotel occupancy exceeds 90 percent

The British-themed complex includes five hotels in the region of Cotai, providing more than 6,000 rooms and suites. The hotel is maintaining an occupancy rate of more than 90 percent and things have been looking up post-pandemic since the COVID19 restrictions were removed.

Sands China is now awaiting approval from the Macau government to build a further hotel tower just outside the complex over 18,000 square metres close to the Cotai Expo facility at the Venetian Macao compound.

The Londoner Macau boasts of replicas of London’s most famous landmarks that include the Big Ben and the prime minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street. Entertainment features British traditions and pageants such as the Changing of the Guard show. Some of the suites have been designed David Beckham.

The resort claims to be the ultimate in luxury, bringing a taste of London to the Las Vegas of Asia.

Las Vegas Sands (LVS:NYSE) is trading at 56.35 (+0.95%)
