Hana Financial Group invests $7.3 Million to combat South Korea’s youth gambling

Hana Financial Group has announced a significant investment of 10 billion won ($7.3 million) in South Korea for a comprehensive project aimed at preventing illegal youth gambling and providing treatment for addiction. This ambitious three-year initiative, launched in collaboration with the state-run Korea Problem Gambling Agency, seeks to address the growing issue of gambling among teenagers through a multifaceted approach.

The project was officially launched in Mapo District, western Seoul, with Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham Young-joo and several governmental officials, including Financial Supervisory Service Governor Lee Bok-hyun, in attendance. The initiative will involve various preventive campaigns, such as the production of musicals and animations specifically targeted at teenagers. These creative efforts aim to educate young people about the dangers of gambling in an engaging and relatable manner.

In addition to these campaigns, the project will also focus on building a robust support system for young people struggling with gambling addiction. One of the key components of this initiative is the expansion of a consultation program that connects addicted youth with professional psychologists. The project has set an ambitious target of facilitating 24,000 consultations over the next three years. This support network is crucial in providing the necessary help and guidance to young people, ensuring they have access to the resources they need to overcome their addiction.

A project to support South Korea’s younger generation

To further enhance the project’s reach and impact, Hana Financial Group has appointed esports legend Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok (pictured above) as the ambassador of the initiative. Lee, a highly respected figure in the world of esports and a role model for many teenagers, is expected to resonate deeply with the younger demographic. His involvement underscores the connection between online gaming and the younger generation, making him an ideal spokesperson for this cause.

The project also aims to foster around 1,000 experts specializing in the prevention of youth gambling. These experts will play a vital role in educating and supporting young people, helping to build a safer and healthier environment for the next generation.

Hana Financial Group’s commitment to this cause is evident in their comprehensive approach, which combines prevention, education, and treatment. Chairman Ham Young-joo explained the importance of a holistic strategy during the project’s launch event, stating, “A comprehensive approach to preventive measures and treatment is essential to protect the youth from illegal gambling.” He further highlighted Hana’s dedication to building social safety networks through various programs targeted at teenagers.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in the fight against youth gambling in South Korea. By investing in education, support, and treatment, Hana Financial Group is taking a proactive stance to safeguard the well-being of young people in the country.
